a lighthouse themed reading week
seven on Sunday
Dear Bookish Friend,
Welcome to my sixth installment of Seven on Sunday, I’m really enjoying this little way of popping in and sharing some highlights and great resources I come across in my week, I hope they have been a great addition to your inbox! And as always, I would love to hear if you have something (or seven somethings) to share with me!
01 - lighthouse reading week?!
I (totally unintentionally) read three books that centered around lighthouses this week! The Puffin Keeper is a cross between a picture book and middle grade book, that in-between stage, with great illustrations. While Between the Sound and Sea and Raccoon Key are both dual timeline stories with some mystery surrounding them and excellent faith elements. I really enjoyed all three books!
I honestly have no idea how I happened to read three lighthouse books in the span of a week, my guess is that in the past five years I’ve read maybe one a year, so this was just kind of funny.
I am very much in the mood right now to read fiction books that have a strong emphasis on the outdoors, possibly inspired by all my lighthouse reads, I’m currently reading this one that is scratching the outdoors itch, I would love to hear if you have more recommendations for me!
02 - beautiful blossoms
Our flowering plum tree is blooming in the backyard, we only planted it last autumn so I had no idea that it would be getting it’s blossoms before anything else in the yard, what a beautiful sign of hope after a long winter!
We also got a water fountain added to our backyard space, I love the sound of the running water when I’m sitting outside.
03 - Audible deal
I think Audible is having a deal right now! Haha, the uncertainty is only because they are funny in the way that the deals are often dependent on when you last had a subscription from them, but I got an email saying there is a deal on now, so it’s worth checking out if it works for you!
04 - mother’s day hike
After church last Sunday I wanted to go for a little hike with my family so we checked out a new-to-us trail. It was a great walk for us but we met an older couple that was struggling some of the slopes. Thankfully Jared was able to help the older gentleman up one of the steepest ones. Then for the rest of the hike we made sure to slow down after each slope to make sure they made it. Thankfully they made it back to the parking lot!
one of my favorite photos from our hike
05 - small town humor recommendation
We are currently re-watching Corner Gas with our oldest two. It’s a hilarious show set in small town Saskatchewan and the small town humor is so accurate. If that sounds up your alley, I’d highly recommend it.
06 - for my non-fiction readers
Jared recently got a subscription to Prelego, it’s a digital library subscription, he’s using it for commentaries for writing sermons, and I recently found out that all of Crossway Publishing’s books are on there. This is going to come in handy for a lot of my Christian non-fiction reading, and many of the books we’re reading for my Christian book club are on there!
I explored a new-to-me bookstore this week. I loved the covers of a lot of their middle grade books.
07 - posts wrap up
A couple of things I’ve shared around the internet this week:
my Passport to Summer Reading Challenge - make a summer reading challenge was a spur of the moment idea and I’m so excited for it!
a library haul & try a chapter - over on Patreon and my YouTube membership
a couple of posts over on Instagram - including my favorite books from April and a visual of my Passport to Summer Reading TBR
50+ no spice books for YA (or adult!) readers - I wanted to create a list of books I wouldn’t hesitate to let my fifteen-year-old read and thus this list!
What have you been enjoying or been inspired by lately?

That is so cool that the three books you read happened to have lighthouses. There was a new middle grade book I saw at the library a few weeks ago that I almost picked up with a lighthouse (it has a beautiful cover). I hope to read it eventually. Maybe you'd like it too. It's called The Mysterious Magic of Lighthouse Lane.
The plum blossoms are very pretty.
I love how your husband was using the one thing for his sermons and you're like, "MORE BOOKS!!!"
It is so nice to discover bookstores!
