I feel the same way about lilac bushes. I have a lilac and hydrangea bushes outside of my bedroom window so it is so nice to smell when a breeze goes through.
That is so cool that you told your kids to identify unique birds and books are the reward. Very sweet. Thirteen-year-old boys are unique creatures for sure. haha. Hope he catches on and participates.
Personally, I love Thomas Hardy! I think his books are easier to read than Charles Dickens'. Most, if not all, of Hardy's books are in audiobook format at librivox.org, and have decent narrators. If you like listening to audiobooks like I do, that is another option.
Sometimes it's acceptable for Oxford comma users to eliminate that comma when the two things listed are a common pairing. Kind of like pancakes, bacon and eggs. :)
I can't wait to see what you think of Far From the Madding Crowd! I read that for the first time last Fall. I didn't love it but didn't hate it. I liked some of the mild thriller feel it has here and there.
I recently finished The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Luli. I went through it slowly. It was really good though! It is a historical fiction with a dual timeline of the silk roads and a family in NYC during the Great Depression. The stories eventually overlap and it was so well done by the author.
I have Project Hail Mary and The Will of The Many on my tbr for later in the year, hoping I enjoy bothπ¬βΊοΈ And I just read Far From the Madding Crowd in April.
I absolutely loved The Will of the Many!! It sparked a curiosity and love for a genre of books I have always shied away from.
Also love the idea of birding for books!
Oxford comma for me! Always. No matter what. Itβs a hill I will die on π It brings clarity and balance to any list!
Haha, I feel like the Oxford comma purists are a die hard group!

Lilacs out the bedroom window sounds like perfection!

I'm only a few chapters in but so far I am finding him easier to read than Dickens!

Ooh, learning something new, thanks!
I am reading Theo of Golden and The Nature of Small Birds. Really enjoying both of them.
Yay, that makes me so happy!
