how many more books will I read in my lifetime?
and I'm going live tomorrow!
Dear Bookish Friend,
My grandma (my mom’s mom) turned ninety-four this week. She has done a good job of keeping some of her hobbies (like sewing) going until rather recently. I just did the math, and if I keep up my hobby of reading about 150 books a year and I live until I’m ninety-four that means I’ve got about 8,250ish more books to read in my future. That seems simultaneously like a lot and not much at all, especially at the rate my TBR list grows.
Anyway, in case you missed it, I will be going live tomorrow evening to chat about The Story Girl, I would love to have you join in and share some of your thoughts!
CURRENTLY READING
I’m mainly reading two books these days, both set in the Victorian period: Of Gold and Shadows and David Copperfield. Of Gold and Shadows has a writing style choice that I’m not a big fan of and it’s affecting my enjoyment of the book, but at the same time, I am liking certain aspects, I’ll share more in my wrap up after I’ve finished the book and can formulate my thoughts better. As for David Copperfield, I’m mostly enjoying it. I feel like my last Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby, changed something, for the better, in my ability to understand and enjoy Dickens’ humor.
YOUTUBE
With the arrival of September I’m now back to (usually) posting twice a week on YouTube, my reading is increasing, and I am reading so many five star books! Here are a few videos I’ve shared on YouTube in the last couple of weeks:
A CHEAP BOOK DEAL
Jennifer R. Patch, one of my favorite suspense authors, is having a sale on some of her ebooks (my favorites!), I think these are on sale for the rest of the month:
A Cry in the Dark - her email says it’s on sale for the rest of the month but it’s currently not showing the sale, maybe check again in a few days?
The Garden Girls - same issue as A Cry in the Dark . . . hopefully the sale price shows up soon!
Crime Scene Conspiracy - I haven’t read this one but I’ve read a different one from the series and enjoyed it!
PATREON
Every month I share some exclusive videos over on my Patreon page! Here’s what I’ve been sharing lately:
trying to read all my ebooks - I’m tier ranking the beginnings of each book and it’s helping me to prioritize them!
our monthly book club - we get together on Zoom and share a favorite recent read (or two, or three . . .) or sometimes rant about a book we didn’t enjoy! I also post the replay for anyone who couldn’t make it.
a monthly personal reading challenge - lots of us choose to make this a page count reading challenge but you can challenge yourself anyway you want, and then we check-in and let everyone know how we are doing.
the high school required reading tag - this was a really interesting tag, especially as I was in the process of putting together my homeschool reads for my seventh and tenth grader at the time.
Joining my Patreon page is a great way to support my channel and I appreciate those who join so much!
If you have been enjoying any specific books or any bookish items lately, I would love to hear it! (You can leave a comment on Substack or hit reply to the email.)

Yay for Chantel 2x a week!
And yay for "getting" Dickens...sadly. I'm not there yet. I've been talking with friends who read lots of Victorian and they have comforted me by letting me know that Dickens is a marmite author and there are plenty of others who don't like him. I think he will be an author I'll like some books but not all/most like i do some others.
